Full Circle

Here’s an example of a beat sheet for an IVP short entitled “Full Circle”…

1) Bruce Hunter was the first person I asked to participate as a director in this project.
2) Unfortunately he was unavailable within my first production schedule.
3) Then the production schedule changed and we lost a few directors.
4) I confirmed Bruce’s participation today as the 12th and final director in IVP #1.
5) Roll credits.

Addendum - 02.25.2009 (the tag)
6) Bruce is now unable to direct; instead he has agreed to host the event.

Congratulations go out to Ginette Mohr and Tim Freeman, the first to complete a short for the IMPROVideo Project, with “I Know of a Beautiful Rose”. Ginette and Tim improvised their B&W short in stop-motion animation, using found materials. Here’s a suitable frame:

Jennifer Whalen has completed shooting her short, “GPS,” and it is currently in post-production.

Adrian Parks sent me a couple photos from his shoot which wrapped on January 5th:

Due to circumstances beyond their control, both Luciano Casimiri and Ralph MacLeod have had to postpone their participation in the IMPROVideo Project. My hope is that the first project will be justification for a second so that they may again have the opportunity to participate.

Yesterday, as I was whining about their departure, I was overheard by Bob Sorger in the next room. Bob gave me his 83-page resume and 145-minute demo reel. Moments later, he was on board.

Revving Up

The IMPROVideo Project v1 is starting to come together. I know it’s starting to come together because I’m starting to get nervous.

I’m meeting with the directors this weekend to go over who they will be using in their casts, what stories they’ll be telling and where they’re going to shoot. That should dictate quite a bit of the actual process that’ll be followed. I’ve got a basic process laid out for them but it’s only intended as a guideline. I’m looking forward to seeing what their processes actually end up being.

From my experience shooting the improvised short “Wish You Were Here”, the plan you go in with does not end up being the plan you come out with. I’m not sure if that’s the result of my naiveté or my open-mindedness. I hope the latter.
